Coach Bios
HEAD COACH

Maruti Kolluru
Coach Maruti began swimming at the age of 10 for the Upper Main Line YMCA. It was during that time that he started to find his love of coaching by helping coach the 8 and under swimmers on the team. Afterwards he continued swimming in college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During his last year at RPI he started coaching at Uncle Sam Swim Club, a local USA Swim club in Troy NY. After moving to Newport, he coached at the Newport Boys and Girls club for a season. Afterwards, he began coaching the Newport County YMCA Wahoos, where he is now entering his eighth year with the team, first as an Assistant Coach and as Head Coach since December of 2019.

Jerry Burbank
Jerry started swimming in middle school and through high school in Northern California, before taking a forty year break to start a family and to concentrate on his career. He returned to swimming for fitness and fun at the age of 57 before discovering Masters Swimming. Jerry spent the last eight years competing in local, regional and national meets prior to joining the coaching and lifeguard staff at the Newport County YMCA.

Will Kornowske
Coach Will began swimming at 7 years old for Team Millennium in Oak Park, IL. This team practiced at the high school he would later attend where he continued to compete as a swimmer and managed to pick up diving, water polo, and a love for teaching along the way. He began teaching swim lessons for his high school and for the local park district. For college, he attended the University of Connecticut, where he played for the club water polo team and served as a captain and the “go-to swim guy” for players new to the sport. And though he thought his swimming days might be behind him, after moving to Rhode Island, he began coaching the Newport County YMCA Wahoos and occasionally competes for the South County YMCA Masters swim team.

Tracy Smith
Coach Tracy is an active swimmer currently competing in both short course and open water with the YMCA Masters Swim Team. Tracy grew up in Miami, FL where she was a multi-sport athlete competing on the swimming, sailing and softball teams. She ultimately decided to focus on her passion for competitive sailing and was a four-time All-American at Connecticut College. Tracy has an extensive background coaching athletes, and most recently joined the Wahoos coaching staff in 2023. Both of her daughters’ swim for the Wahoos.
